Dutch translation of 'Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops'

Here's the front cover of the Dutch translation of 'Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops.' I really love it. It will be published in The Netherlands by BBNC books in July. (Illustrations by Greg, same as UK edition.)

For non-Dutch speakers: The English translation of the Dutch phrases on the cover are similar to:

'I would like to buy your heaviest book, if possible.'

The book:
A history of concrete
A very heavy story

Dick Swaar (this is a Dutch word joke: there is a very famous author called Dick Swaab and besides that the literal meaning of the Dutch words Dik and Zwaar (pronounced as Dick and Swaar) actually is: thick/weighty and heavy.

I'm thrilled that the Dutch publishers have put so much thought into this. x

let me explain why bookshops are wonderful

Last week, I was asked to attend City University and talk about the world of bookselling, along with Tim Godfray (CEO of The Booksellers Association), Frances Tay (co-founder of Woolfson and Tay) and Miriam Robinson (head of Marketing at Foyles).

We were each asked to give a fifteen minute speech about our experience within the industry, how it's changing and our hopes for the future. It was a really wonderful evening, with lots of hopes and thoughts on change and adaptation. I've recorded my speech separately, so you can have a listen to it. I hope you like it. Bookshops are worth fighting for.

Why Bookshops Are Worth It
(in which I talk about living statues, 'Weird Things...', Paris, and the souls of books)

Scottish folk! I'm going to be doing two events north of the border for More Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops. If you're near these places, it would be wonderful to see you.

Wednesday 24th April
Blackwell's, Edinburgh
Event and signing 6:30pm
Join us for an evening of book chat and anecdotes from all around the globe, and don’t forget to bring your own to share! I do love Edinburgh (I did my degree there), so I'll be running around and hugging the city.
For more information or if you would like a signed copy please contact Ann Landmann on 0131 622 8222 or events.edinburgh@blackwell.co.uk

Thursday 25th April
ReadingLasses, Wigtown
Two events, come along for one or both. At 6:30pm I'll be chatting about 'Weird Things...' and signing books (free event), and at 8pm if you'd like to stay on, there'll be a dinner. Most lovely. I'm very much looking forward to going back to Wigtown, after being there for the festival in September.

If you'd like a signed copy of More Weird Things... , you can find me at one of these events, or you can order a signed copy below. :) If you're abroad, just use the drop down box to select international postage options. The book is £8.99 plus postage, and there's a box to let me know if you'd like the book dedicated to someone in particular. (If you'd like more than one copy, drop me an email and I can work out postage costs.)

I'm very much looking forward to sharing this book with you all, and thank you for continuing to support Weird Things...!
Lots of love. xx

Select Postage Option

*like last time there will be a slight delay on books reaching bookshops in Australia and NZ, but I'm hoping it won't be long!
I'll let you all know about any translation rights.

NB: If you're in the US, and would like a copy of the UK edition of this book, please bear in mind that it has a few quotes in it from the Weird Things... US edition that didn't appear in the first UK book. It's 90% new material if you're in North America (and completely 100% new material if you're in the UK), but thought I'd warn you. :) If we do a US sequel, these quotes will be replaced with new ones.
