I was joint 2nd place (out of 2000) for the arts council and Charnwoord Arts miniWORDS 2009 competition =D.

You can read my little fifty word story over here on their website.

Rather chuffed!

edinburgh book festival

So, I'm on the train up to Edinburgh for the last weekend of the Book Festival. Going to see Margaret Atwood and also a play of her new book The Year of the Flood. Anyone around? If you see me around Charlotte Square, come say hello :) xxxx

some lit with your veg?

This article on the Bookseller, saying that one in every five books bought in the UK is bought in a supermarket, has really annoyed me. The power supermarket chains have over publishing industries and independent bookshops is so disheartening. Supermarkets do not have the staff (or the want) to really organise their books or assist in advising customers. You only have to look at the Jacqueline Wilson 'scandal,' and that ASDA was selling HP Deathly Hallows for £1 (making a loss no bookshop could possibly compete with) to see that supermarkets have too much power. All hail the independent bookshop, please. No more of this commercial crap.

I'm currently recovering from psuedo-swine flu (I say pseudo because who the hell knows who's got what right now), and am attacking some poetry pieces. I'm very pleased with the work I've done in the past couple of days. So, hurrah!

Am working all this weekend at the bookshop, so going to make the most of writing time today. Also, I'll be taking part in the West Port Twestival, which you should all check out and take part in, too!

In other news, did I tell you about the time a customer asked if Anne Frank had written a sequel to her diary? Did I? Oh dear. Oh very dear.
